St Petersburg’s Hyundai plant to start making Solaris upgraded version in 2017 — company

ST. PETERSBURG, June 2. /TASS/. The St. Petersburg-based Hyundai plant will start producing an upgraded version of one of Russia’s most popular car - Solaris, from the beginning of 2017, PR Director of the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus company Viktor Vasilyev told reporters on Thursday.

"We are keeping unchanged our plans to start the test assembling in November-December [2016] in order to launch the commercial production of the upgraded Hyundai Solaris version at the beginning of 2017," he said, giving no details pertaining features of the new version.

The plant started manufacturing Hyundai Solaris at the beginning of 2011, just soon after the plant’s commissioning in St. Petersburg.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus has been operating in St. Petersburg since September 2010. It made Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio. In 2015, the plant’s production output was at 229,500 cars. Before the end of this year, the carmaker will invest $100 mln in the modernization of the plant.
