Russia considers purchasing Greek railway operator, maintaining debt burden — official

MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. Russia considers participating in the privatization of the Greek railway operator TrainOSE while maintaining the company's debt burden, First Deputy Ministry of Transport Evgeny Dietrich told journalists on Thuesday.

"We are consulting, and our interest in the competition is still there," he said, answering a question about whether the Russian Railways will continue to participate in the tender for privatization of TrainOSE, given the information that the company's existing debt (850 mln euro) could be written off not completely, but partially.

It was reported earlier that Russian Railways submitted a bid for the prequalification stage of the tender on Greek railway operator TrainOSE privatization.

A representative of the Russian Railways confirmed to TASS submission of the bid to take part in the prequalification stage of the tender for acquisition of Greek TrainOSE.
