Russia's Tatarstan ready to localize business of ASEAN countries

SOCHI, May 19. /TASS/. Russia’s Tatarstan is ready to provide sites for localizing the ASEAN countries’ business, which is thinly represented in Russia so far, President of the Republic Rustam Minnikhanov said in on the sidelines of the Russia-ASEAN summit.

"There are many [joint - TASS] educational program as our universities represent us in ASEAN countries. But why is there no business ready to develop with ASEAN countries on the territory of Russia?" he said, adding that Tatarstan is ready to offer sites for localizing business to investors.

According to Minnikhanov, it is necessary to develop direct flights between the Republic of Tatarstan and ASEAN member-states as well as boost trade turnover as "the potential is huge."

The Russia-ASEAN summit, which is being held in Sochi on May 19-20, is going to become the biggest international event in Russia this year. The summit is held under the slogan "Towards Strategic Partnership for the Sake of the Common Good." It is expected to adopt a declaration that will lay the basis for an action plan of Russia-ASEAN cooperation in the political, economic and cultural spheres, as well as in the sphere of security.

Russia has been a dialog partner of ASEAN since July 1996. Similar partnership summits are normally held on the territory of member-states and the choice of Sochi as venue for the Russia-ASEAN summit on the partnership’s 20th anniversary is symbolic.
