BAKU, May 11. /TASS/. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) plans to purchase from 3 to 5 bln cubic meters of gas yearly from the Russian gas holding Gazprom, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullaev said on Wednesday.

"We have presented our proposals to the Russian company and are awaiting its response. It's about purchase of 3 to 5 bln cubic meters of gas per year," Abdullaev said.

The greater portion of imported Russian gas will be injected into Azerbaijani underground gas storages for expansion of their capacity, he added.

Gazprom started deliveries of natural gas to Azerbaijan on September 20, 2015. The average daily supplies are about 6 mln cubic meters of gas. Supplies are taking place in accordance with the sale and purchase agreement inked last September for the term of five years with an extension option.
