Strike in Kuwait slashes crude production to 1.1 mln barrels per day

Natural gas production stood at 620 mln standard cubic feet a day

AL-KUWAIT, April 17. /TASS/. The production of crude oil went down by 1.1 mln barrels per day in Kuwait on Sunday due to a strike of the oil workers union, spokesman for Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) Saad Al-Azmi said Sunday.

Crude average output dropped to 1.1 mln barrels a day on Sunday (down from 2.8 mln barrels - TASS), natural gas production stood at 620 mln standard cubic feet a day (17.5 mln cubic meters) in line with an emergency plan due to the strike, the spokesman said.

Chief Executive of one of the company’s subsidiaries, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), Mohammad Ghazi Al-Mutairi said the refineries were sticking to the emergency plan of operations. "Oil refining has dropped from 930,000 to 520,000 barrels," he said, adding that this is enough for assuring the local market.

The strike comes amid the meeting of oil-producing nations in neighboring Qatar.
