DAMASCUS, April 12. /TASS/. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad assured the Russian parliament that Russian companies will receive maximum preferences in the construction and oil and gas sectors in Syria, Dmitry Sablin, member of the Federation Council (upper chamber of parliament) told reporters.

Earlier on Tuesday he participated in a meeting with the Syrian president.

"Assad stressed the importance of economic cooperation in housing construction aimed at Syria's recovery, as well as in the oil and gas sector, especially in offshore operations. He stressed that the Russian companies will receive maximum preferences - not because he or the government want this, but because it is the will of the Syrian people and the government should answer it," Sablin said.
