Norway’s Petroleum and Energy Ministry will not take part in Doha meeting — source

The Ministry told TASS earlier the government of Norway is monitoring progress in negotiations of oil producing nations on the oil production freeze but is not taking part in them

OSLO, March 17. /TASS/. Representatives of Norway’s Petroleum and Energy Ministry will not attend the oil producing countries meeting in Doha, a source in the Norwegian ministry told TASS on Thursday on conditions of confidentiality.

The source refused to answer whether Norwegian officials received an invitation to visit Doha. The official request by TASS to the Petroleum and Energy Ministry remains unanswered so far.

The Ministry told TASS earlier the government of Norway is monitoring progress in negotiations of oil producing nations on the oil production freeze but is not taking part in them.

On February 16, the oil ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Venezuela, OPEC and Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak met in Doha, Qatar, and discussed how to improve the situation with oil prices on the global market. The parties expressed readiness to maintain the average oil production level in 2016 at the level of January this year, if other oil-producing countries join this initiative. Iran said in its turn it will join the initiative only after reaching the production level of 4 mln barrels daily.
