Russian business may help Afghanistan in reaching energy independence — minister

Afghanistan announced itself as a full-fledged participant in such international projects as electric power supplies from Central Asia to South Asia and construction of the TAPI natural gas pipeline

MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. Afghanistan is working towards reaching the energy independence and the Russian business is ready to take in country projects, Russia’s Deputy Energy Minister Yuri Sentyurin said on Thursday.

"Afghanistan sets itself an ambitious goal of reaching the genuine energy independence," the official said.

Furthermore, Afghanistan announced itself as a full-fledged participant in major international projects, such as electric power supplies from Central Asia to South Asia and construction of the TAPI [Turkmenia-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India] natural gas pipeline.

The Russian business intends to take part in all these projects, Sentyurin said.
