Gazprom gas supplies to Turkey up 3.4% in Jan to 2.82 bcm

The demand for Russian gas is growing consistently on the key markets, including the Turkish market

MOSCOW, February 2. /TASS/. Russia’s gas giant Gazprom increased its gas supplies to Turkey in January 2016 by 3.4% year-on-year to 2.82 bln cubic meters, Chairman of the company’s management committee Alexey Miller said on Tuesday, adding that the country is still Gazprom’s second-biggest customer now.

"The demand for Russian gas is growing consistently on the key markets, including Turkey. According to the latest update, in January 2016 Gazprom’s supplies to the country increased by 3.4% compared with the same period in 2015 to 2.82 bln cubic meters. It should be pointed out that Turkey is still number two among biggest buyers of Russian gas. According to preliminary estimates, more than 27 bln cubic meters (of gas) has been supplied to Turkey in 2015," he said.

As TASS reported earlier, Gazprom increased gas export to non-CIS countries by 36% in January 2016 year-on-year to 15.1 bln cubic meters. Particularly, export to Germany surged by 50.9%, to Britain - by 185.7%, to Italy - by 16.1% and to Poland - by 67.2%.

Chairman of the company’s board Viktor Zubkov said earlier that Gazprom could supply 160 bln cubic meters of gas to Europe in 2016. In 2015, the company increased its gas export to non-CIS countries by 8% compared with the previous year - to 159.4 bln cubic meters. Thus, 2016 export to Europe will almost remain at the level of last year. Particularly, gas supplies to Germany rose by 17.1% in 2015, to Italy - by 12.6%, to France - by 36.8%, to Britain - by 10.2%, to Austria - by 11.5%.
