Statoil’s drilling rig in North Sea damaged by big wave, one dead

OSLO, December 31. /TASS/. A drilling rig of Norway’s energy giant Statoil in the North Sea has been damaged by a breaking wave, killing one worker and injuring two others.

"The rig is now heading to shore under its own power, while evacuation takes place," the Norwegian oil and gas company said in a statement.

The incident occurred west of Bergen on Wednesday at 5:00 pm local time.

The injured people are receiving medical treatment ashore, the company said.
