Russian watchdog finds coliform bacteria and St. aureus in Auchan’s Moscow stores

MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Moscow and Moscow Region Department of the Russian veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor found coliform bacteria and St. aureus in meat products of certain Auchan’s retail chain stores, the authority said on Friday.

Seventy samples of meat products from several Auchan hypermarkets in Moscow were taken and a half of them did not meet standards.

"According to findings of laboratory tests, nonconformity to safety norms and standards of the Customs Union and Russia by microbiological and chemical indicators was identified in 34 samples," the authority said. This evidences insufficiency of measures taken by Auchan to meet mandatory requirements in terms of protecting health of population from poor quality and hazardous food raw materials and foods, Rosselkhoznadzor reported.
