MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/. The Russian federal city of Sevastopol should not only develop as a naval base, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday at his annual news conference.

"It would be wrong to say Sevastopol should only be a naval base. I am convinced Sevastopol’s development should include many directions, many vectors at once," Putin said.

He said Sevastopol is also an important element of naval infrastructure in that region of the world, in Europe.

"We are equipping the Black Sea Fleet with new ships, submarines. And of course, Sevastopol as a naval base will also develop," Putin said.
