MOSCOW, October 7. /TASS/. Russia is ready to diversify cooperation with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in sustainable agricultural development and in strengthening food security spheres, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on Wednesday.
According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, Gatilov said at a meeting with the IFAD President Kanayo Nwanze that topical questions of Russia-IFAD cooperation had been discussed, including support for the agriculture in the countries with low income bracket and spread of joint project activities in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
"Kanayo Nwanze has stressed the IFAD’s interest in attracting Russian expert potential as well as financial one to the fund’s projects," the ministry said.
The IFAD is United Nations’ specialized organisation focused on mobilizing financial resources for poor rural populations in developing countries and helping them to improve the agricultural sector. The fund has invested some $25 billion in the frameworks of 805 programmes and projects in various countries across the globe since it was created in 1977.
Russia is taking part in the IFAD’s activities since 2014.
