MOSCOW, August 19. /TASS/. Russian ruble will become the main currency in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) from September 1, LPR council of ministers announced on Wednesday.
"With the aim of stabilizing the financial and monetary system and in connection with sharp decline of hryvnia use… to establish the Russian ruble as the main currency on the LPR territory," the governmental decree published by Luhansk Inform Center said.
According to the decree, salaries, pensions and other social payments will be made "exclusively in rubles."
However, "possibility remains to make payments in cash and cashless forms in hryvnias, US dollars and euros," the document said.
