Regulator inspects chain of Auchan hypermarkets in Moscow

On August 11, Auchan stopped the work of butchers in four hypermarkets in the Moscow region, where violations were found

MOSCOW, August 19. /TASS/.Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing is inspecting the whole chain of Auchan hypermarkets in Moscow, head of the regulator Anna Popova told reporters on Wednesday.

"Since mid-June a regular inspection of all stores of the Auchan chain in Moscow has been underway - this includes five large stores and the rest, which are considered as smaller ones," - she said, adding that the inspection was planned in the beginning of the year.

Popova did not voice the results of the inspection.

"Normally we do not publish the inspection results before it is finished. Now the data is being processed," she said.

Earlier the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) inspected the distribution center of Auchan in the town of Tomilino in the Moscow region, as well as several suburban hypermarkets and took 47 samples of meat and sausage used in pizza. In 35 cases the products did not meet the requirements to microbiological parameters set by the Customs Union technical regulations. In particular, inspection detected listeria in chilled meat products as well as exceeding number of coliform bacteria, which can lead to food poisoning of different severity, enteritis, enterocolitis, combined with the syndrome of intoxication, the regulator said.

On Wednesday, Rosselkhoznadzor said that during an unscheduled inspection in Auchan hypermarket in the west of Moscow similar violations were revealed.
