MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. The Russian government has endorsed a draft agreement with Pakistan on cooperation on the North-South gas pipeline project, according to a government resolution posted on the official website of the Russian cabinet of ministers on Thursday.
The agreement is geared to "create favourable conditions for the construction of the North-South gas pipeline from the city of Karachi to the city of Lahore in Pakistan with Russia’s participation."
The agreement is effective in a period of 25 years with possible automatic extension every five years.
The project provides for "a maximum use of Russian technologies, materials, equipment and products and engagement of Russian research, design and building organizations," the government said.
The Pakistani side "undertakes to grant the rights to use land plots necessary for the project implementation and carry out research route laying works."
Works under the agreement will be controlled and coordinated by the Russian energy ministry and Pakistani ministry of oil and natural resources.
