MOSCOW, August 3. /TASS/. It will be possible to book transit capacities of OPAL connection gas pipeline of the Nord Stream pipeline for the winter season of 2015-2016 from October 1, 2015, OPAL Gastransport GmbH said on Monday.
"Updating the terms and conditions of use means that the OPAL can be used more intensively than before, and thus make an important contribution to supply security for German and Europe," OPAL Managing Director Dirk Flandrich said.
This is not the first auction for OPAL capacities, OPAL Gastransport GmbH said. A company’s representative told TASS suppliers already had opportunities to book capacities but not at the entry point in Greifswald. Gas from Greifswald will be sold now at auctions of Russia’s Gazprom Export.
TASS reported earlier Gazprom Export is going to hold an auction in September 2015 for gas supplies during the Delivery Period Winter 2015/2016 to several delivery points in North-West Europe, at the choice of the customer, with total volume of 3.2 bln cubic meters, the company said Friday.
"Gazprom Export announces a gas auction thus addressing the challenges of the evolving energy market with the intention to test a new mechanism of gas sales in Europe," the company said.
"This sales mechanism will become an additional instrument but not an alternative to the system of long-term contracts that provide energy security to Europe," the statement said.
The auctions are expected on September 7, 8, 9, and 10. The deliveries will be carried out starting from October 1, 2015, to March 31, 2016.
