In 2014, the Russian president said, the trade turnover between Russia and Azerbaijan grew by over 12%, and in the first quarter of the current year the growth was almost by 6%.
"This demonstrates the businesses from Azerbaijan have been taking advantage of the situations in our markets, including in the food market. And I would like to stress, we are happy about it," Putin said.
"Furthermore, if this cooperation expands, it would be even better, we are interested in it," Putin added.
Moscow and Baku are applying every effort to diversify bilateral relations, the Russian president said.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Russian president congratulated his Azerbaijani counterpart with opening in Baku of the first European Games. The opening ceremony, Putin said, was an "impressive show, talented and spectacular."

"The relations between our countries have been developing very positively, dynamically, and every year we are putting higher the objectives we have," he said during a meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
He said the two leaders had been meeting regularly, and active dialogues continue also between sector ministries. Parliamentary contacts have been developing, too.
"Despite the problems in the global economy, we still are building up the potential of mutual cooperation in the economic sphere," Aliyev said.
And humanitarian cooperation, he added, has always been at the show level.
"The level of cooperation between our countries allows us cooperate closely, build up cooperation and be optimistic about future," he said.
Azerbaijan’s president thanked Putin for the visit.
