Mercedes suspends plant construction in Russia due to sanctions

The company was considering building a plant in Russia's Vladimir region

VLADIMIR, June 10. /TASS/. German automaker Mercedes-Benz indefinitely suspended the construction of the car plant in Russia due to sanctions, the Head of the Corporation of the Vladimir region development Sergey Borodin told TASS Wednesday.

"We know that Germany has stated the construction of the Mercedes plant in Russia. We considered various areas, we suggested on two sites in the Vladimir region, but at the moment due to sanctions the implementation of this project is suspended," Borodin said.

In January, 2015 the Vice-Governor of the Vladimir region Alexey Marchenko told TASS about the possible Mercedes-Benz production in the region.

Other regions of the Russian Central Federal District were also in talks with the German car manufacturer. A decision was expected at the end of the first half of the year.
