Russia broadens foods import from South America and Asia during food embargo

Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Uruguay, Chile, Vietnam, Tunis, Serbia and Morocco are among countries that increased deliveries of their products to Russia

MOSCOW, May 19. /TASS/. Russia broadened foods import from South America, Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa during the food embargo, Head of Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control Sergei Dankvert said on Tuesday.

"These products appear starting from Southeast Asian nations, huge quantity of fish from Malaysia, from Indonesia, Thailand and Iran," Dankvert said.

Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Uruguay, Chile, Vietnam, Tunis, Serbia and Morocco are among countries that increased deliveries of their products to Russia during the effective period of its counter-measures, he added.

Russian agricultural watchdog also raises the issue of the potential export of Russian products during negotiations with these nations, the head of service said.
