ULYANOVSK, May 18. /TASS/. The Research Institute of Nuclear Reactors in the Russian city of Dimitrovgrad will start building a multifunctional quick research reactor of the latest generation this summer, the institute said on Monday.
Total cost of the project is around 5 bln rubles ($101.6 mln). The reactor is scheduled to be commissioned in 2020.
The new reactor is intended for the experimental support of research and development activities on innovative nuclear power plants of the new generation and to prove out nuclear fuel cycle closure technologies. The reactor will make possible to perform comprehensive studies of radiation materials and experimental activities with use of neutron and other types of reactor radiation for fundamental research.
The new "reactor will have the highest capacity across existing, designed and constructed quick research reactors in the world," Institute Director Alexander Tuzov said.
