BELGRADE, May 13. /TASS /. Russia guarantees gas supplies to Serbia, head of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said Wednesday.
Federation Council is the upper chamber of the Russian parliament.
"Russia guarantees absolutely reliable gas supplies to Serbia," Matvienko told reporters.
She added that this would not depend on the outcome of the ongoing talks on the projects of Russian gas supplies to Europe.
Matvienko said that Russia had to abandon the South Stream pipeline project following the EU’s geopolitical pressure. Russia presented the Turkish Stream as the new variant to ensure gas supplies from Russia to Europe, she said.
The senator reiterated that Russia regards Serbia is a friendly country and its important economic partner in south-eastern Europe.
