After 25 years of decline, Russia reports growth in milk production — agriculture minister

According to the Russian ministry of agriculture, milk production in Russia went up by 24,200 tons in 2014 to reach 30.8 million tons

UFA, April 17. /TASS/. Russia reports growing milk production, for the first time in its recent history, Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolay Fyodorov said on Friday.

"For the first time in Russia’s recent history, last year we curbed the 25-year-long negative tendency of reducing milk production and even yielded a minor surplus. Now, three months later, the figures are seen as growing further," he said.

According to the Russian ministry of agriculture, milk production in Russia went up by 24,200 tons in 2014 to reach 30.8 million tons. Production growth was reported from 46 Russian regions, with the biggest growth of 62,100 tons being registered in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Milk production in the Altai Territory increased by 50,900 tons, and in the Sverdlovsk region - by 38,800 tons.
