Ukraine cannot supply people with self-produced gas — minister

The country has to import nine billion cubic meters of gas, the Energy and Coal Industry Minister told a parliament meeting

KIEV, April 10. /TASS/. Ukraine is unable to provide its population with self-produced natural gas, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchishin said on Friday.

"We have to import nine billion cubic meters [of gas]," the minister told a parliament meeting.

He said the Ukrainian population consumed some 14 billion cubic metres of gas and some eight more billion are used during the heating season.

Therefore, the country needs some 21 billion cubic meters of gas annually, Demchishin said

Ukraine earlier produced around 20 billion cubic meters of gas, three of which were produced on the Black Sea shelf in Crimea.

Another 1.5 billion are produced by Ukrnafta company and spend on its needs.
