MOSCOW, April 7. /TASS/. Cooperation between Moscow and Beijing is becoming a more significant factor in international affairs, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday at a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

"Expanding cooperation with China in all spheres is our priority," Lavrov said. "The basis for the current stage of developing relations is the joint statement of the leaders on strategic partnership," the foreign minister added.

China is the leading trade partner of Russia, and the two countries actively cooperate in the financial and energy spheres, Lavrov noted.

"Cooperation on the international arena is becoming a more significant factor in international affairs," the foreign minister stressed. "We demonstrate balanced approaches to solving global problems," he added. Lavrov particularly noted cooperation with Beijing in UN, BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization).

The foreign minister said the sides will discuss today preparations for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s official visit to Moscow in May.
