KIEV, December 28. /TASS/. Only Russian gas will make it possible to meet practically half of Ukraine gas demand, Konstantin Borodin, a leading Ukrainian energy expert, said on Sunday.
“We must waste no time and contact Russia. It is the key source of energy available to Ukraine now. It is the only source we have. Reverse gas supplies from Europe have a capacity of about 60 million cubic metres a day. It is used slightly more than by a half - some 35 million cubic metre a day,” he told the Inter television channel.
“Here are mostly economic reasons, since the gas received in the reverse mode is also Russian gas and Russia supplies less gas to Europe. It is simply difficult to have this gas for us /Ukraine/, although this gas is cheaper,” he noted.
“Whereas the European Union is looking for alternative sources of fuel, Ukraine’s government cancels laws that make it possible to save it,” he added.
