KIEV, December 17. /TASS/. Ukraine supports Poland’s idea on setting up a European Energy Union, President Petro Poroshenko said on Wednesday as he addressed the Polish Sejm (parliament).

“We hail the idea of our Polish friends to found the European Energy Union aimed at guaranteeing a greater energy security and independence for the whole of the European continent,” he said.

Poroshenko thanked Poland that was supplying gas along with Slovakia. He used the occasion as a yet another opportunity to call “for coordination of efforts against a possible use of the exports of gas by a single country as a tool of political pressure on other countries.”

He claimed that Ukraine was pursuing two objectives, namely, “to modernize the gas transportation system and to facilitate supplies of natural gas into the country.”
