Iran asks Russia to help it join WTO

TEHERAN, November 30. /TASS/. Iran asks Russia to help it join the World Trade Organization (WTO), according to a memorandum on cooperation between Russia’s ministry of economic development and Iran’s ministry of industry, mining and trade signed on Sunday.

The one-year memorandum was signed by Russian Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev and Iranian Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh.

“The Iranian side has asked Russia’s advice and assistance in Iran’s joining the WTO. The Russian side has agreed to offer its assistance,” the document says.

Iran suggested a meeting be held with representatives from all member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union to negotiate lower customs tariffs in trade between the Union and Iran. Russia agreed to help Iran establish contacts with the governments of the members states of the Eurasian Economic Union, the document says.

The sides agreed to take steps to boost bilateral trade and expressed readiness to organize exchange of business missions, exhibitions and conferences dedicated to trade and economic potential and investment projects.

Apart from that, the sides agreed to exchange information about promising investment projects and tenders, as well as about problems in bilateral trade in order to solve them as soon as possible.
