MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on heads of Russian regions on Friday to use the Asia Pacific Region’s (APR) potential for developing its own economies.

Russia will continue developing interregional cooperation with the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and European partners, who did not support the EU sanctions against Russia, Lavrov said at a session of the Council of Heads of Subjects of the Russian Federation.

“It is important to use the APR major potential for developing our eastern regions, including by strengthening mutually advantageous interregional cooperation,” he said.

Lavrov noted special importance of relations with China.

Russian regions are joining efforts to search for new partners, including among the ASEAN countries, in India, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea, he said.

Russia also upholds agreements on creating a forum of heads of regions of Russia’s Far East, Lavrov said.

He put forth an initiative on creating a council for cooperation of BRICS countries. “We have good possibilities to use more actively the potential of regions’ cooperation with the Latin American countries, particularly with Brazil,” Lavrov said.
