MOSCOW, November 13. /TASS/. Russia’s veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog has imposed a ban on pork imports from Canada as supplies contain growth stimulant ractopamine prohibited in the Customs Union, the authority said in a statement Thursday.

“Over the last 10 months we have registered a stable increase of detection of harmful and dangerous substances, including growth stimulant ractopamine prohibited in the Customs Union,” the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight said.

The service initially planned to impose a similar ban from January 1, 2015, if Canada does not provide data on improvement of the situation with the presence of ractopamine in its pork supplies.
