Russia prepares plan to protect its Internet from external impact — minister

Moscow is also discussing joint action to protect vitally important fields of Internet with the BRICS states, says Communications Minister Nikolay Nikiforov

GORKI, October 28. /TASS/. Russia has prepared a plan to protect its Internet segment from external impact, the country is also discussing joint action to protect vitally important fields of Internet with the BRICS developing-nation assembly bringing together Brazil, India, China and South Africa along with Russia, Russia's Minister of Communications and Media Nikolay Nikiforov told reporters.

“Such plan exists, but this is always some process, because threats and our responses to these threats are always being improved, that is why we are having talks with our partners, particularly those from the BRICS states to protect our position together so that crucial elements of Internet infrastructure should not depend on any external destructive influence,” Nikiforov said.

Prepared plan to respond to attempts to cut off Russia’s Internet segment was technically developed, Nikiforov said. “There are absolutely concrete technical scenarios which will allow domestic segments of the World Wide Web to resist even in case of destructive external impact. There are no restrictions for cross-border traffic, all these organisational measures are being fulfilled calmly inside the country and we will resolve such measures year after year, step by step,” Nikiforov said.
