Russia supplies gas to China at prices of supplies from Central Asia - diplomat

BEIJING, October 11. /TASS/. The price of gas supplied to China equals the price of gas supplies from Central Asia, Russia’s Trade Representative in China Alexei Gruzdev told TASS on Saturday.

“The price on exported gas is not announced, but it is known to be about or slightly over the price of gas supported to China from Central Asian countries,” he said.

As the contract between Russia and China was signed in May 2014, head of Russia’s Gazprom Alexei Miller quoted only the total amount - $400 billion. He chose not to give the price, calling the information a “commercial secret.”

Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said the price for China would be comparable to the price Europe is paying for the Russian gas.

Under the contract between Russia and China, Gazprom will supply over 30 years about 38 bcm gas annually. The gas would be extracted at new fields in East Siberia, from where it will be transported to China by a pipeline. Russia will invest in construction of the pipeline $55 billion, and China - at least $20 billion.
