MOSCOW, September 29. /ITAR-TASS/. The US dollar surged to a record high against the Russian ruble in trading on the Moscow Exchange on Monday.
As of 11:30am Moscow time (07:30am GMT), the US dollar climbed by 32 kopecks against the ruble to a record high of 39.50 rubles to the dollar while the euro surged by 51 kopecks to 50.13 rubles to the euro, exceeding the psychologically important 50-ruble mark for the first time since September 16.
The value of the dollar-euro currency basket (€0.45 and $0.55) grew by 40 kopecks against the ruble to 44.27 rubles. A further growth of the bi-currency basket by another 13 kopecks will trigger foreign currency interventions by the Central Bank of Russia on the domestic foreign exchange market.
