“The decision has not been made yet. The system has been manufactured, its fate is undetermined,” Dzirkaln said, adding that the system might be offered to other foreign customers.
He said that deputy head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Co-operation Konstantin Biryulin had disproved Monday’s media allegations that the system would be scrapped.
“He [Biryulin] did not confirm that the system will be definitely scrapped,” Dzirkaln said.
In late July, Konstantin Biryulin did not rule out that the S-300 air defense missile systems the delivery of which to Syria was suspended, might be disassembled and partially scrapped. “The system cannot stay without use for such a long time. As there are no decisions and progress in this sphere, so the scraping decision must be made,” he told ITAR-TASS.
Russian President Vladimir Putin in autumn 2013 said the delivery of the S-300 system to Syria was suspended. According to him, separate units of the system were delivered to the country.
