MOSCOW, June 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia will take measures to protect its economy as soon as it faces negative consequences of the Ukraine-EU association agreement, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"As soon as the association agreements comes into effect, we can talk about taking protective measures," Peskov said on Friday.

Commenting on a possible package of protective measures, he said, "It is evident." "What is indispensable for our economy will be taken," Peskov said.

“Implementing the agreement is necessary for such conditions to appear and as soon as the implementation starts defensive measures can be discussed,” Peskov said. “Everything necessary to protect our economy will be done.”

Ukraine’s agreement with the EU is incompatible with a free-trade deal between Russia and Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin said earlier. For example, Russia cannot keep a zero import duty for Ukrainian goods.
