Russia, Sudan take ‘practical steps’ to expand economic partnership

MOSCOW, April 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia appreciates the high level of relations with Sudan, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after talks with Sudanese counterpart Ali Karti on Monday.

“We are satisfied that the political dialogue between Moscow and Khartoum is supported by practical steps towards greater trade and economic cooperation,” Lavrov said, stressing the importance of a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation held for the first time in December last year.

Lavrov added that the Sudanese foreign minister would also meet Russian Minister for Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoy, who co-chairs the intergovernmental commission.

“The parties will consider prospects of agreements on a whole range of trade, economic and investment issues,” he said.
