Moscow attracts record $40 billion in investments 2013

MOSCOW, March 17. /ITAR-TASS/. In 2013, Moscow attracted record investments ever - over 40 billion dollars, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Monday.

"Despite the unfavourable forecasts, Moscow is beating records - last year we attracted biggest ever investments - over 40 billion dollars," he said.

The year-on-year growth made 14%.

The mayor stresses the importance of a "correct information environment around Moscow".

"It is most important for us to demonstrate the truth about Moscow, the business climate here, the living conditions in Moscow - all that is very important", he said on air of the Kommersant-FM radio station.

Sobyanin stressed Moscow should be a driver of the Russian investment climate.

"Moscow cannot be considered separately from the entire country, including the central region", he said.

The Moscow agglomeration is reported to have about 20 million residents, and the city is surrounded by regions, which have integrated into it, and the population in this major region is about 40 million, Sobyanin said.

"This makes about one-third of the country’s population, thus when speaking about Moscow we are speaking about Russia’s central nucleus, the central part of Russia, which is most populated and most active", Sobyanin added.
