Rosatom: Russia observes strictest requirements for nuclear facilities safety

NOVO-OGARYOVO, January 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia expands the package of contracts for the construction of nuclear power plants without detriment to the strictest requirements for nuclear facilities’ safety, said Sergei Kiriyenko, head of the Russian Federal Atomic Energy Agency Rosatom.

“The increase is not to the detriment of safety. All safety indicators are improving,” Kiriyenko said at the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, displaying to the head of state materials of the World Association of Nuclear Operators.

“The most important indicator is the number of actuated safety systems within one year of operation. Russia’s index in 2013 was twice that of Europe and approximately 150 percent better than in the United States,” Rosatom head said.
