Medvedev demands that North Caucasus consumers stop stealing gas

MOSCOW, December 18. /ITAR-TASS/. The total volume of debt of natural gas consumers in Russia’s North Caucasian Federal District is 50 billion roubles (~$1,52 billion) - almost half of the country’s total debt, RF Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday at a meeting of the government commission on socio-economic development of the North Caucasian Federal District.

The electricity debt to wholesale suppliers in the district is also big. “It has increased by five billion rubles in a year,” the prime minister said.

Medvedev on Wednesday demanded that the governors of the regions within the North Caucasian Federal District tighten control over the natural gas consumption. “It is necessary to stop gas stealing and the use of non-certified gas equipment, which is a crime,” the prime minister said.
