Ukrainian PM complains over natural gas agreements with Russia

KIEV, December 13. /ITAR-TASS/. Agreement on the purchases of Russian natural gas, which the national company Naftogaz Ukrainy and Russia's OAO Gazprom signed in 2009, are highly disadvantageous for Kiev and are depleting the country's foreign exchange/gold reserves, Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said Friday at a roundtable conference on a withdtrawal from the political crisis.

"The gas agreement has brought about a huge loss of the nation's monetary reserves and it devours our currency reserves every month," he said.

He recalled that the Ukrainian government is effectuating measures to cut down the consumption of gas from Russia, adding that in 2013 this country was going to slash it by almos 40% versus 2010 -- to 26 billion cubic meters from 37 billion cubic meters.
