Belarus to extradite Uralkali chief at Russia’s request

Baumgertner was detained in Minsk August 26

MOSCOW, November 21. /ITAR-TASS/. Belarus made a decision to extradite Director-General of Russian potash fertilizer producer Uralkali Vladislav Baumgertner at Russia’s request, a source in the Russian prosecutor-general’s office told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

 {history:80:'More information on the subject'}“On November 20, the Belarusian prosecutor-general’s office decided to extradite Russian citizen Vladislav Baumgertner at the request of the Russian prosecutor-general’s office. He will be transferred to custody of representatives of the Russian law enforcement shortly” the source said.

Baumgertner was arrested in Belarus on November 26 on charges of power abuse and placed under house arrest in the Belarusian capital Minsk.

The Russian Investigation Committee also initiated criminal proceedings against Baumgertner and sent an extradition request to Belarus. In October Moscow’s Basmannyi court took Baumgertner into custody in absentia.

“Soon Baumgertner will be handed over to Russia’s law enforcement bodies,” the source said.
