MOSCOW, November 19. (ITAR-TASS). Energy conservation measures will help Russia save 160 billion cubic metres of gas a year, or almost a third of gas consumption in the country, Deputy Energy Minister Kirill Molodtsov told the Gas of Russia forum.

“Russia has a huge untapped gas saving potential,” he said.

The mentioned measures will allow to save about 200 million of equivalent fuel by 2020, which is equal to 20% of energy consumed in 2012, Itar-Tass quoted the director of the Energy Ministry’s department of energy efficiency, Alexander Mitreikin, as saying on Monday. Measures stimulating the use of high technologies and innovations should facilitate the process, he said.

The state energy efficiency program is aimed at reducing energy intensity, or total energy consumption per unit GDP, by 40% by 2020, Mitreikin added. The ministry has no doubts this level is achievable. Last year its measures alone helped drop the rate by 3.2%.
