Russian reserves of unconventional gas total 83.7 trillion cubic m

Explored reserves of natural gas in Russia were 67.7 trillion cubic metres

MOSCOW, November 19. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian reserves of unconventional gas, including shale gas, total 83.7 trillion cubic metres, Russian Ministry of Natural Resources’ official Aleksey Oryol, told the forum Gas of Russia.

Explored reserves of natural gas in Russia were 67.7 trillion cubic metres, Oryol, who is in charge of the ministry's department for the regulation of exploration and use of subsoil resources, added.

Itar-Tass earlier reported Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak saw no need to produce shale gas in Russia. Shale production was expensive and less environment-friendly than that of natural gas, he said. Shale gas is more relevant for countries that do not have their own natural gas resources. For environmental reasons, Europe is still cautious about the idea.
