KIEV, November 4 (Itar-Tass) - Ukraine’s gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy said it would pay for Russian natural gas supplied by Gazprom in August by collecting debts from domestic heat and electricity suppliers.

“The government is working to settle their debts to Naftogaz Ukrainy. It is this money that we use to pay our Russian partners,” Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavitsky said on Monday, November 4.

He had earlier promised to solve the issue of debts to Russia on November 4.

Ukraine’s debt to Russia for natural gas supplies is 882 million U.S. dollars and had increased by another 7.7 million U.S. dollars by November 1 due to accrued interest.
