Russia's Zarubezhneft launches drilling at Cuba's Boca de Jaruco oil field

Zarubezhneft and Cubapetroleo signed a contract for pilot works, additional oil prospecting and secondary oil recovery methods in 2011 for 25 years

MOSCOW, August 26 (Itar-Tass) - Zarubezhneft has launched the drilling at the Cuban oil field of Boca de Jaruco, the Russian oil company said in a statement on Monday.

Zarubezhneft is carrying out enhanced oil recovery operations at the oil field (drilling operations were launched at the oil layer E1).

Zarubezhneft and Cubapetroleo signed a contract for pilot works, additional oil prospecting and secondary oil recovery methods in 2011 for 25 years. The term of pilot works is set at four years.

Two sections - layer E1, at which the drilling was launched, and layer M, at which three wells are to be drilled, were assigned for pilot works at the oil field.

“The results of drilling of a well at layer E1 will be decisive for choosing the enhanced oil recovery technology at these sections,” the Russian oil company noted.
