Ukrainian PM says Customs Union should use trade rules by WTO rules

He assured Ukrainian entrepreneurs that “the government has always defended and will defend the economic interests of domestic manufacturers”

KIEV, August 21 (Itar-Tas) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov instructed his government to step up work to harmonise technical regulations of Ukraine and the Customs Union created by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

“We must take into account realities as they are. The Customs Union and new rules within it are a reality. There will be no benefits and we do not demand any. We urge our partners to use trade rules fairly on the basis of the World Trade Organisation regulations and the effective agreement on the free trade area between the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States,” the prime minister said at a government meeting on Wednesday, August 21, adding: “And we ourselves must comply with these rules.”
