Rusal reduces aluminum output by 100,000 t in H1 2013

RUSAL continued its cost reduction program

HONG KONG (Xianggang), August 19 (Itar-Tass) - In the first half of this year, RUSAL “reduced its aluminum output by around 100,000 tons (4.5%),” the company said in a report released on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Monday.

“The production of aluminum in the reporting period amounted to 1.999 million tons from 2.093 million tons in the same period last year,” the company said. It links the decline with the beginning of the program to reduce the production at the least efficient smelters.

RUSAL at the same time continued its cost reduction program. The cost per ton of aluminum during the second quarter of 2013 decreased by 3% - to 1,911 US dollars per ton, compared with the first quarter.

As for the alumina production, “in the first half of the year it accounted for 3.638 million tons, a 7.5% decrease.”

The company’s bauxite output in the first six months of the year fell to 5.75 million ton, a 14.3% decrease year on year.
