MOSCOW, August 12 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the Research Institute of Experimental Physics /located in Sarov, Nizhny Novgorod region/ with the 60th anniversary of the first Soviet thermonuclear bomb testing.
“The first successful test of a thermonuclear bomb took place exactly 60 years ago at the Semipalatinsk range. That technology breakthrough was the result of work of outstanding specialists - scientists, engineers and designers,” the prime minister’s telegram reads.
“Invention of the new generation’s weapon has become not only an effective instrument to protect the national security, but also an important milestone in the construction of a system of global nuclear deterrence, which today provides a durable peace in the world,” Medvedev said.
He expressed confidence the highly professional team of the Institute will continue to do everything necessary for improvement of the country’s defense.
