Iran’s Bushehr NPP may be launched soon - Kiriyenko

The power plant is being checked and tuned up,” Kiriyenko added

MOSCOW, May 22 (Itar-Tass) - Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant may be commissioned in the near future, the head of Russia’s Rosatom corporation Sergei Kiriyenko told the media on Wednesday.

He refrained from mentioning a specific date.

When asked if the NPP might go operational in the summer, Kiriyenko replied, “I do hope this will happen in the summer or even earlier.”

“From the very beginning our position was this. Safety enjoys priority. There will be as many checks and re-checks as necessary,” he said.

The power plant is being checked and tuned up,” Kiriyenko added.

Atomstroiexport is pressing ahead with construction work at the first unit of the Bushehr NPP.

The project is being implemented on turn-key terms. The preparations for handing it over to the customer is in the final phase. In August 2012 the reactor achieved the design capacity.
