Ukraine does not have arguments for annulling gas contracts with Russia

As for the price, today the price is 406 dollars

KIEV, April 28 (Itar-Tass) - Ukraine does not have weighty arguments to seek the annulment of gas contracts with Russia signed under the government of Yulia Timoshenko in 2009 at the SCC Arbitrtation in Stockholm, Ukrainian Vice-Premier Yuri Boiko said in an interview with the newspaper “Zerkalo Nedeli” (“Mirror of the Week”) published on Saturday.

"The contracts are signed in a manner that leaves us without any rights at all. Under the contracts we constantly owe something, starting from those crazy penalties that were initially included in the text,” Boiko said.

He admitted that Ukraine did not have formal grounds to file a lawsuit because the most outrageous clauses were removed from the contracts when the Kharkov agreements were signed.

“I am talking about penalties. As for the price, today the price is 406 dollars. The same price or slightly higher has been set for Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, etc. Had a price been a hundred dollars higher, without a discount provided by the Kharkov agreements, we would have turned to court. But our prices are commensurate. Therefore, we will not have an argument in court,” Boiko explained.
